Every July or so, when our cabernet grapes start to turn from green to red – to blush – everything seems possible. We know in that moment that the sun and the earth have once again given us grapes, that nature’s part of the arrangement is working, and that we will soon be able to turn those grapes into wine.
Our Journey
How it Started
After making wine for 10 years, though, Ron, an architect and passionate home winemaker, realized that the process would be a whole lot more enjoyable if he didn’t have to struggle with some of the mechanics of winemaking. He’d jury-rigged a way to attach his wine press to a folding table so that the press was high enough to allow the juices to pour easily into a carboy. He created his own system for tracking each batch so he knew when to take the nascent wine to the next step. And he kept track of all his records so he’d know what worked, what didn’t and what he wanted to try next time. That’s when Jaren, an award-winning product designer, envisioned filling in these gaps and making them available to the thousands of home winemakers around the world. That’s how Blushworks was born.
Together, this father-son team designed the first Blushworks offerings: Plinth - a sturdy, versatile press stand, and Compass - an easy to use guide to track batch progress, and archive the whole life-cycle of your wine.
The idea: spend less time struggling with the tools and more time making.
